Not seeing results right away? DOMS

Delayed OnSet Muscle Soreness or DOMS

DOMS (wiki) is your body saying I'm recovering. It is the soreness you feel when you first start a new workout. Basically the body goes into repair mode. Swelling, and water retention is very common here which can make it appear that you aren't losing weight when you really are. Your body does this to protect the muscle to prevent any injury, increased tearing, and aid in recovery.

Not everyone will drop those 5-10 pounds after starting a new workout. This is with any workout including Insanity, P90x, marathon training, etc. I only saw a brief stint of the no weight loss period so for me it wasn't a big deal. You have to STICK WITH IT. Don't give up because when your body is recovered and adapted you will be surprised as to how much you will lose. It will take time, measure your body by inches not pounds.

Being on the health roller coaster for several years I've worked out with a number of different people. The ones who are affected most by this are normally self conscious people and women. Stick to your guns, don't give up and you will see. Trust your trainer, your diet, and most importantly yourself. The results will come in. I've seen DOMS affect weight for 2-3 weeks after starting a new program then suddenly 10-15 pounds just disappear without warning.

Also, you don't have to 'feel' sore for you to be affected by this. So if you are working out, feeling good, but you still aren't seeing results...They will come! As long as you are giving it the proper effort and sticking to your diet, give it time and you'll be surprised.

Be consistent, be smart, and trust yourself.
